Since 2005 Pastor Jackie has served at Good Hope Union. Previously she served in Washington, DC as Associate Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church and on the staff of Foundry United Methodist Church.
Prior to heeding God’s call to ministry she was President and Chief Operating Officer of The MAXIMA Corporation, a 20 year-old consulting firm that achieved a national reputation as one of the top African American owned, and fastest-growing firms in the United States.
Her career includes an appointment in 1989 by former President George H. W. Bush as Chairman of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. She was the first African American to head this federal agency and served in the Bush and Clinton administrations.
Early in her career she litigated cases as a Staff Attorney for the U.S. Federal Election Commission and as an Assistant County Attorney for Montgomery County, Maryland. She also worked as a Division Manager and Systems Analyst in the information systems field.
Recognized by the Governor of the State of Maryland as a religious leader, Pastor Jackie currently serves on the Board of Governors of Wesley Theological Seminary. She is the recipient of numerous other awards for her contributions in health and safety including the Chancellor’s Citation for Distinguished Service in Public Policy from Syracuse University, the U.S. Customs Service Gold Band Award, the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission Safety Award and others.
Pastor Jackie is a magna cum laude graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity degree. She is the recipient of the Maryland Bible Society Award for Proficiency in Biblical Preaching. In addition to her divinity degree, her education includes a Juris Doctor from American University, a Master’s degree from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Swarthmore College.
Born in New York City, New York, she resides in Maryland with her husband, nationally renowned entrepreneur and business executive, Joshua Smith.
